2009-2010 Midwest Regional Initiative: Introduction

After a very productive brainstorming session at the Hyde Park Summit, you have created the 2009-2010 Midwest Regional Theme: Midwest v2.0: New Innovations, Re-energized Workforce, Sustainable Future. As a unique region in which many states share similar problems, especially related to unemployment, technology, and economics, we have an opportunity to truly lead a movement of our generation’s policy minds and ideas. Please see the attached one-pager for the details.

There are a few extremely important dates to keep in mind:

November 13-14, 2009: Fall Policy Workshop: Detroit, MI
February 1, 2010: Policy Journal Submission Final Deadline
April 10, 2010: Policy Journal Launch: Chicago, IL

Each chapter is expected to bring a delegation to the events, and as more information becomes available, I’m sure you’ll be as excited as I am for the exciting things we have going on in Detroit and Chicago. I will keep you updated throughout the coming months regarding all events, opportunities, and journal deadlines.

Because this theme is such a prevalent issue in our region, I would encourage chapters to form connections with local think tanks and non-profits to gain field insight into what the major problems in the policy arena are. This can be a great initiative for your entire chapter, a center, or individuals. Moreover, it can be used as a great recruitment tool, as it shows we are doing something tangible and uniquely Roosevelt– leading a student progressive, impactful policy movement from the ground up.
